The "Portable Clinics" is a charitable
platform that enables non-government health workers to care
for the vulnerable populations in southern California. This
website serves to coordinate the manpower and logistics related
to the monthly Weekend Portable Clinics sponsored
by Compassion Net, in conjunction with various trusted host
agencies in north Orange county, Los Angeles county, and western
San Bernardino county.

Who are the vulnerable populations? We extend our service
to local folks who struggle with inadequate access to health
care. This first population is vulnerable because it consists
of those without health insurance who might have been displaced
from their employment, in transition, or have a chronic
condition that places hardship on their finances. The uninsured
might include those who work multiple jobs to support their
families, or the diabetic mom who gives up her own health
insurance just to put more discretionary money back into
the family.
In 2005 and 2006, we focused on a second group - the evacuees
displaced by the 2 Gulf Coast hurricanes in 2005 who were
then hosted by families and relief organizations in southern
California. Disaster relief accentuates the challenges of
rebuilding. These disaster events have
caused many Americans to ponder. "What's it like to
be displaced from a neighborhood of friends?" What's
it like to recollect documents and pictures that speak of
fond memories? For those who become separated and find themselves
in a foreign surrounding, what must we do to alleviate their
anguish and help rebuild hope? We have determined the best
way to use our resources: to provide health care resources
to hundreds of churches whose members welcome disaster evacuees
into their homes. Our mission is to constitute a firm second
wave of assistance long after the media has
moved on to the next "big news."
The government's safety net is being stretched. You and
I can step up to help. Portable Clinics are part of a coordinated
effort to demonstrate effective compassion. It offers a
platform for caring individuals from the health field to
make an impact. The Weekend Clinics occurs once a month,
hosted by trusted community agencies in Los Angeles, Orange,
and western San Bernardino counties. Each event can help
approximately 70 - 100 individuals plus their families.
The events are staffed by medical professionals, counselors,
university students, and other volunteers. Behind the scenes,
this service platform is powered by a team of advisors from
around the country and a local administrative team.
